Department of Political Science

Government Arts & Science College, Tavanur

The department initially started with around 30 students and currently offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes, including the Five-Year Integrated M.A. Programme in Politics and International Relations (FYIP).

The department follows a comprehensive social science approach that integrates and critically examines the sociological, economic, philosophical, historical, and cultural dimensions of politics. Special emphasis is given to understanding Indian political realities while also engaging with global political developments and international issues.

The department aims to develop students’ analytical thinking, democratic values, research aptitude, and leadership qualities through learner-centred and research-oriented education. Faculty members encourage students to critically engage with contemporary political debates, governance issues, international relations, public policy, diplomacy, human rights, environmental politics, and global challenges.

The department takes pride in the academic achievements of its students, including the publication of research papers by postgraduate students in national and international journals. Students are actively encouraged to participate in seminars, workshops, conferences, debates, academic forums, and research activities that enhance their intellectual and professional growth.
